CRISP COUNTY, GA – News release from West Central Health District

For Columbus (Muscogee), Clay, Crisp, and Macon County Health Departments in the West Central Health District, 2012 brings the need for continued staff furloughs as budget cuts persist.

Public Health Departments in this district are dedicated to Prevent, Promote and Protect the health of the citizens in each of our 16 counties.

“As we plan for long term sustainability, furloughs have been a necessary part of that process to this point.

In some of the health departments facing budget cuts, we find ourselves in survival mode and furloughs are helping us to keep our doors open and services continuing for our citizens.

Since public health’s beginning to now, we avidly strive to provide the highest quality of services.

However, as we move forward in this budget climate, some of our services may no longer have a free of charge option, states Dr. Beverley Townsend, District Health Director.

The Columbus Department of Public Health resides in the Health and Human Services Building, located at 2100 Comer Avenue.  Please note that this facility houses multiple agencies.

This notice of agency furlough closure pertains specifically to the Columbus Department of Public Health located on the 2nd floor.

However, the Vital Records Office in Columbus along with the WIC Program in Columbus and Ft. Benning will remain open on February 20, 2012.
