Cop impersonator arrested in Crisp Co.

CORDELE, GA (WALB)- A Kentucky man is behind bars in a Crisp County Jail Wednesday accused of impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Cordele police got multiple calls from the Best Western Inn Saturday from folks complaining about a man peeping into their rooms.

Officers arrested Chad Fields who told them he was a Drug Enforcement Administration agent. He continued to make that claim at the Sheriff's Office, even telling officers how to book him, but investigators say it's not true. 

Scholarship named after Crisp Co. sheriff

CORDELE, GA (WALB)- Georgia law enforcers are coming together to honor a veteran south Georgia sheriff who is battling cancer.

For the past 35 years Sheriff Donnie Haralson has worked in law enforcement in Cordele, but recently his battle with cancer has prevented him from doing the job he loves as sheriff in Crisp County.

The Georgia Narcotics Officers Association and the Crisp County Sheriff's office are teaming up to name a scholarship in honor of Sheriff Haralson.

Distribution facility brings jobs to Cordele

CORDELE, GA (WALB)- When the economy went down around 2008, like most cities..Cordele certainly felt the sting.

Industrial buildings like the Southeast Food Distribution facility were left unused and left many people looking for another place to work.

Well city officials say they believe things are looking up.

The industry distribution center is moving back in on May 1st and a number of job positions are opening up.

Missing boy sought in Crisp Co.

CORDELE, GA (WALB)- Crisp County officials are searching the area in and around a pond near the Farmer's Market for a young boy who  was reported missing.  They have been on scene about an hour.

Teacher surrenders on sex charge

Gerome  Morgan, who was the subject of a warrant for sexual assault for having a sexual relationship with a student, turned himself in moments ago in Cordele.

35 year old Gerome Morgan is charged with two counts of sexual assault for having consensual sex with a student.

They say the encounters happened on and off campus at Crisp County High School, where he teaches Science and technology.

Officials put out rabies warning

ALBANY, GA (WALB)- Spring time is underway and with it comes a warning from district public health - vaccinate your pets for rabies. This comes after a dog and cat in one South Georgia County already tested positive for rabies.

And while the days are longer and more people are outdoors.It's also important to protect yourself.

At least 2 south Georgians were attacked last year by wild animals that tested positive for rabies. And while wild animal attacks are relatively rare on humans, that number increases for our outdoor pets.

Weather advisory for Crisp and Wilcox Counties

CRISP COUNTY, GA (WALB)- The National Weather Service has issued a significant weather advisory for dime sized hail and 40 mph winds in Crisp County and Wilcox County until 6pm Sunday.

These storms have potential to produce dime sized hail, frequent cloud to ground lightning and wind guests to 40 mph as they move across portions of Crisp County and Wilcox County through 6pm.
