Girls Inc. to host Bag Lady Luncheon

ALBANY, GA (WALB)- Straps, colors, buckles and brand names, the purse is a symbol of femininity and Girls Incorporated of Albany is using that symbol to do what they do best, help build girls age 6 to 18 in South Georgia into successful women in the community.

The organization is asking for donations of gently used designer bags for their first ever Bag Lady Luncheon.

The event is an auction from 11:30am to 1:00pm Thursday, May 99th at the Deck at Creekside of Chehaw Park.

DNR approves aquifer water storage experiment

BAKER CO., GA (WALB)- The Georgia Department of Natural Resources board today gave the go-ahead to build an experimental aquifer water storage and recovery system in Baker County.

It's intended to improve flow in streams off the Flint River and protect endangered species.

But the Georgia Water Coalition and many landowners along the Flint River oppose the project.

Wild animals don't make good pets

WORTH CO., GA (WALB)- Public health officials are urging you to keep your pets up to date on their rabies vaccinations. Wild animals such as raccoons can't be vaccinated which is one reason they aren't supposed to be kept as pets.

One Worth County woman learned the hard way when her pet raccoon attacked her. He had to be euthanized so he could be tested for rabies.

This year, there have been two confirmed cases of Rabies in Worth County- one in a bobcat, and the other in a Raccoon.

New bill to bring bigger, better tourism

Georgia- Georgia is looking to make tourism bigger and better after Governor Deal signed a bill Monday at Atlanta Motor Speedway to revamp tourist locations and build all new ones.

With the new bill, tourist spots like the Wild Adventures Water and Theme Park here in South Georgia can now get projects approved to expand and new attractions can move in to bring more tourists.

The legislation changes the procedures of the Georgia Tourism Development Act.
